Falcons draft pick tells hilarious story about Michael Penix
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The talk of Falcons rookie minicamp is going to be Michael Penix Jr., and rightfully so.

All of the things that sold Atlanta on the Washington product will be on full display at Flowery Branch. Without a pass rush, etc., Penix will be able to showcase his incredible arm talent.

In the hot Georgia heat, Penix is going to impress a lot of people, but what Raheem Morris really fell in love with was his ability to throw it the exact same way in disgusting weather at a private workout in rainy, cold Seattle.

The Falcons watched Penix nonchalantly go pick up cold, hard footballs and spin them with ease. His physical talent is apparent, and it’s a gentle reminder that some of these guys aren’t the same species as you and me.

Hell, some of these guys stand out among themselves, like Penix. Falcons fourth-round pick Brandon Dorlus told a hilarious story about meeting his classmate, illuminating just how physically gifted Penix is.

Mind you, Dorlus stands 6-foot-3 and weighs nearly 290 pounds. This isn’t a small man by any measure, and Penix’s hand engulfed his. If you’ve never held a regulation NFL football before, let me tell you from an average person’s perspective that it’s much different than your average high school football.

Michael Penix makes it look like a Nerf football that kids play with. There’s a lot that goes into being a franchise quarterback, much of which isn’t physical –anticipation, diagnosing, leadership, etc.

We won’t know whether Penix has it or not for a while, but he absolutely looks the part of an NFL quarterback. The guy was made in a football lab.
