Fever's Aliyah Boston reacts to being taken with the No. 1 pick

Former South Carolina forward Aliyah Boston reacted to being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick on a Tuesday episode of "Good Morning America."

"I was really nervous just because it was something that I'd been working toward for quite a long time," Boston said, via Yahoo Sports. "When I heard my name called, it was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulder."

A two-time Naismith Defensive Player of the Year and three-time First-Team All-American, Boston was brought aboard the Indiana Fever in Monday's WNBA Draft. 

The Fever took Indiana guard Grace Berger, Ohio State guard Taylor Mikesell, LSU forward LaDazhia Williams and South Carolina forward Victaria Saxton with their following selections.

Boston will continue the youth movement in a lineup that features forwards NaLyssa Smith and Emily  Engstler, the No. 2 and No. 4 selections in the 2022 WNBA Draft, respectively. 

Center Queen Egbo, who played in 33 games and started in 31 for the Fever in 2022, could be another reliable option on the interior alongside Smith and Boston.

Selecting Boston was the easy choice at No. 1. Will Berger and the other draftees hold their own on an up-and-coming team with the goal of bringing a winning season back to Indiana?

Berger may have to earn minutes behind guards Kelsey Mitchell and Erica Wheeler. Mitchell led the Fever in both points and assists per game in 2022. Her season was highlighted by a 34-point, six-assist performance against the Dallas Wings in late July. 

Wheeler has earned one All-Star appearance in her seven-year career. She led the Atlanta Dream with 118 total assists in 30 games last season.

Berger will be a welcomed edition for a squad looking for extra playmaking help. The 6-foot guard will bring along the toughness and versatility that could make her a reliable piece for the Fever sooner rather than later.
